Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.
The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a difficult year, winning just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.
Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with former coach his previous coach.
Now collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the past month - culminating in a closely contested competitive win over opponent Moutet.
It is his first trophy since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface from spring of 2023.
The win also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 championships at 21 distinct competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 the champion.
"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.
His counter-punching strategy and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had caused some to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was finished.
But the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an improved service.
He recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the last five points to take the lead.
Both players traded service breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, gained dominance to force a final set.
The opponent rescued four early-game opportunities in a close deciding set before Medvedev won the break to that score to secure the win.
Suitably, Medvedev secured the title with a point at the net, with the Frenchman unable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
